Project Director of IRDG, S Piratheepan announced that SPK ROCK (Pvt) Ltd was officially opened at the direction of Hon Naveen Dissanayake, Minister for Plantation Industry, with the support of his ministry, Secretary to the ministry , Chairman Coconut Cultivation Board and Heads of Coconut Development Authority, Coconut Research Institute and Coconut Cultivation Board.
SPK ROCKs Head Office and Its name board was inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Ministry of Plantation Mrs R Wijialudchumi.
SPK ROCK (Pty) Ltd was established by IRDG as a part of its entrepreneur incubation initiative and supervision.
At this ceremony the Executive Director of SPK ROCK said “we have been operating in isolation and now we are delighted that we are receiving recognition and support from many institutions. We currently employ 20 local staff and hope to employ over 100, once we get the assistance with export license and international marketing. At present local owners of nearly 500 acres of coconut farms have joined us to formulate initiatives to expand this operation.

Secretary to the State Ministry of Plantation Mrs R Wijialudchumi said, “there should be many more companies like this in the Northern Province and SPK ROCK should be pioneering example providing confidence to others. In the future when our Minister Naveen Dissanayake visits you, your organisation should be able to deal and overcome all the challenges and be an exporter of its products.
