IRDG and Otthulaippu collaborated and rolled out an initial phase of the capacity building programme for Kalmadu Nagar youth. This programme was conducted in Kalmadu Nagar itself over 2.5 days between 25th April and 27th April. In total, 30 participants attended the sessions. The participants were mainly aged between 20-30 years and 75% of them young females.
This programme is aimed at providing personal development skills for the village youth and to enable IRDG to select 12 permanent staff and 12 apprentice from this pool for its field office to manage project and administer the Community restoration and sustainable livelihood development.
Kalmadu Nagar project sustainable livelihood programme has a target of creating over 200 entrepreneurs and when it is fully functional the collective turnover of this model village will be over Rs 300 million per year.
Ms Pramila, an established coach from Chennai, and Otthulaippu designed the programme to fulfil the needs of the youth who will oversee the Kalmadu Nagar Model Village Development Programme headed by IRDG. The workshop topics included the following;
Attitude building , Emotional balance, Self-awareness, Self esteem, Leadership traits ,Goal setting, Team work, Time Management, Problem solving, Critical thinking
They voiced unanimously that the best outcomes from this workshop are becoming self-aware and the ability to apply these life skills in their personal and social life.
The workshop was conducted to be activity based learning and development.
There were many opportunities for the youth to understand their own strengths and skills through role plays, games and dramas.
Phase 2 of this programme and programmes for other communities will be planned and rolled out in the next few months to support IRDG's model village development programme.
