Directors of IRDG Naga Narendran and S Jeyavarman and Param Paramanathan (Promoter) met with the Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, His Excellency Bryce Hutchesson and Counsellor Charlotte Blundell at the Australian High Commission. IRDG introduced its community restoration agenda, focus and its plans to create rural jobs for the war affected vulnerable people by facilitating start-ups of commercially viable and sustainable micro and SME businesses.
Naga Narendran mentioned that linking rural produce to the mainstream value chain was the most challenging aspect of IRDGs agenda. The meeting was a part of IRDGs initiative to canvass for resources and capacity required to develop and implement projects and it is currently in the process of engaging all relevant stakeholders.
HE Hutchesson said that Sri Lanka is changing and it is pleasing to see expatriates with connections to Sri Lanka returning to be part of this.  He also noted that Australia has a long-standing development relationship with Sri Lanka and has been supporting business development in former conflict affected areas with good success rates.  He was encouraging of IRDG’s similar focus.
